This white wine is named after the flesh-red color of the ripe grapes. The "Roter Veltliner" was once the main variety on the “Wagram” vine region. Since this variety very susceptible to rot and the yield is uncertain, the former “favorite” of the wine-growers got rare. Today the “Roter Veltliner” is cultivated only on about 250 hectares, of which about 80 hectares on the “Wagram”.
